Great excitement at Shakespear Park as 20 North Island robins were released there on Friday to start a new population. More will be released soon and then we’ll just have to wait and see how well they do. (This pic is of a Tawharanui robin – you can often see him if you sit for a while at the Ecology Track bridge.)
While I was at Shakespear Park this morning I spotted a couple of young whiteheads. All the whiteheads transferred to Shakespear Park last year are banded and as you can see this one has no leg bands and proves (if proof is needed) that the whiteheads released last year are well settled and breeding. I heard two other groups as I went up Waterfall Gully so it looks very positive. Here’s hoping for young robins as well this time next year.
