A flat calm day at Tawharanui last week perfect for bird counts along the South Coast bush. Except, that is, for the chorus cicadas singing fairly loudly so you wonder if you might be missing the odd very quiet bird call. Bellbirds were giving the cicadas a run for their money though with most sites having well more bellbirds than tuis. Whiteheads and saddlebacks are spread right through but we are yet to have any robins settling there. Its nice bush but possibly dries out too much for robins or gets too much wind through it?
