Seasons at Tawharanui

The ponga at top left and the rush on the right of each of these photos will tell you that they both show the same scene. The photo on the left is taken at the beginning of September (ie now) and the other three months later at the end of November. What a transformation. It’s sometimes said that there is not much seasonal change in the New Zealand landscape but it is there if you look. This stream is in Ecology Bush at Tawharanui right beside the Fishermans Track.

Quite co-incidentally I was crossing the stream here in late June and found probe holes made by feeding kiwi. The kiwi was obviously putting a lot of effort into finding something to eat because that’s quite a big hole.
