Tawharanui Robin

NM-NN on Boundary Line

This is NM-NN. NM-NN is the male half of the first pair of North Island robins I found established outside the predator fence at Tawharanui Regional Park. Shortly afterwards I lost them until the female turned up back inside the park with a new mate. Until today I hadn’t been able to find this guy but it turns out he is still just where I found him a year ago. It may be around September when courtship feeding begins that I can find whether he has found a new mate. (NM-NN refers to his leg band combination. M is the metal band you can see in the photo and N is black, one above the metal and two on the other leg.) Also today came across the lovely fungus below on a decaying cabbage tree trunk.
