Its getting late in the season for robins to be breeding but at Tawharanui Regional Park there are still new nests being started. These eggs take around 18 days to hatch and chicks stay in the nest for 21 days so it will be into February before these eggs will fledge. The robin “pair” who produced this nest have had an interesting season; the male and his long standing mate had one successful nest before she disappeared. A second female laid the second (unsuccessful) clutch but also vanished and this nest is by the male’s third mate of the season. Very “Days of our lives”.
